چکیده

BACKGROUND The outcomes of patients with metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) differ between individuals. The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) on survival in patients with metastatic NPC. METHODS A total of 229 patients with disseminated NPC were evaluated. The effects of pretreatment peripheral blood neutrophil, lymphocyte, and NLR on survival were examined using the proportional hazards regression model to estimate hazard ratio (HR). The relationship between short-term treatment efficacy and pretreatment NLR was analyzed using the chi-square test. RESULTS The pretreatment elevated neutrophil count (p = .020), percentage of neutrophil (p < .001), and NLR (p = .002) were statistically significantly associated with a poor prognosis. The cutoff value selected for NLR was 3.6. The median survival time was 15.3 months for the high-NLR group and was 23.5 months for the low-NLR group (p < .001). CONCLUSION NLR is a prognosticator in patients with metastatic NPC.

Neutrophil-lymphocyte ratios in the prognostication of primary non-metastatic Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma.

INTRODUCTION Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is a geographically and racially variable disease which has a high incidence in Malaysia. Based on current concepts in tumour related inflammation the inflammatory marker, neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio was tested to find its relationship with prognosis in nasopharyngeal carcinoma. OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio on pro...

Pretreatment hematologic markers as prognostic factors in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma

BACKGROUND Pretreatment hematological markers of inflammatory response have emerged as prognostic factors for patients with cancer. In this study, we evaluated the prognostic significance of various hematologic parameters in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). METHODS Clinical data from 251 patients with NPC were retrospectively collected. Neutrophil counts, lymphocyte counts, plate...

Elevated peripheral blood lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio predicts a favorable prognosis in the patients with metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma

INTRODUCTION Patients with metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) have variable survival outcomes. We have previously shown that an elevated peripheral blood lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR) is associated with an increased metastatic risk in patients with primary NPC. The present study aimed to investigate the prognostic value of pretreatment LMR in a large cohort of metastatic NPC patient...

Prognostic Significance of Neutrophil to Lymphocyte Ratio, Lymphocyte to Monocyte Ratio, and Platelet to Lymphocyte Ratio in Patients with Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma

The peripheral blood neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), lymphocyte to monocyte ratio (LMR), and platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) have been reported to correlate with the prognosis of many malignancies. This study evaluated the prognostic value of pretreatment NLR, LMR, and PLR in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). A retrospective analysis of clinical and pathological data of 140 NPC patients ...

Predictive value of inflammation-based prognostic scores in patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma treated with cytoreductive nephrectomy

Inflammation-based prognostic scores are useful for predicting survival in various cancers. Here, we aimed to determine the most useful inflammation-based prognostic score for predicting survival in patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma undergoing cytoreductive nephrectomy. We retrospectively analyzed the data of 152 patients who underwent cytoreductive nephrectomy for metastatic renal ...
